For four and half days, we will practice and teach together, pulling back the curtains and revealing how to go from being a good teacher to an exceptional teacher.

Take away the mystery of what makes every class a success and learn the nuts and bolts of teaching an awesome class consistently.

Just as therapists have supervision in order to hone their skills, as yoga teachers, you need more opportunities to refine your teaching through loving and honest feedback.

About Your Teachers:

About Kirtan and Kimberly:

In 2006, as manager of BodySoul Adventures Brazil, Kirtan was in desperate need of a top yoga instructor and prayed for help. That very same day, Kimberly emailed him and was hired on the spot! They worked together seven days a week for the following five months on the magical Ilha Grande island off the coast of Rio. A special friendship was forged and with Kirtan in New York City and Kimberly in California they are collaborating on this unique offering. They share a profound passion for India, Sanskrit, Samba, yoga, bodywork and holistic healing modalities, as well as a dedication to their own personal transformation as the platform for serving others. These days they nerd out over yoga case studies and new sequencing ideas.

About Kirtan Smith:
Born and raised in ashrams in California, England and India, Kirtan grew up with the languages, music and philosophies of India. A high school football All-Star, he went on to play rugby at UCLA, destroying his body in the process. The suffering inspired him to take up yoga, with on campus classes taught by Shiva Rea. Graduating with a degree in International Relations, he moved to Brazil working as an outdoor adventure guide, and completing Hatha Yoga TT with renowned Brazilian teacher Regina Shakti. After a decade in Brazil, a deep yearning to delve deeper into yoga and healing arts brought him to New York. Enrolling in the first ever 500-hr Urban Zen Integrative Therapist program in 2009 was a dream come true. Studying under Rodney Yee, Colleen Saidman Yee and many master healers profoundly changed his life. He is now on the Urban Zen teaching faculty, teaches group classes throughout the city and integrates Reiki, essential oils and yoga therapy in his private practice.

About Kimberly Johnson:

Kimberly Johnson has been practicing yoga for 21 years and teaching for 15. She graduated from the Guild for Structural Integration in 2002 and has been working as a Rolfer since. She has studied directly with the three main lineage holders of the Krishnamacharya yoga tradition- Pattabhi Jois, BKS Iyengar, and Desikachar, both in India and the US. She trains teachers worldwide- in Thailand, Malaysia, the United States, and Brazil, where she lived for the past 8 years. Her classes and teaching are powerful and intense, working slowly and deeply towards a transformation in the internal, energetic structures as well as the bio-mechanical and physical layers of the body. Her practice, and life, are forever changed after becoming a mother. She teaches, works on, and writes about new moms and the physical, emotional, sexual and spiritual changes of becoming a mother.

Kimberly Johnson, is an American woman in love with Brazil.
